What does the medical involve?
For remote medicals, these can be done over video link. You will be asked a series of questions about your health.
If you require a physical exam, you will be seen in our clinic and examined in accordance to the requirements on the medical form.
If your medical requires a height and weight, then we ask that this is completed by yourself before the appointment, as we have no equipment to do these measurements at the clinic.
If you require a urine sample, we have pots available at the clinic. You do not have to bring a sample with you, but ensure your bladder is full when you arrive. For comfort, you can provide the sample before your physical examination.
If you require an ECG, then this can be performed at the same appointment. This is sent to our partners at Broomwell Health Watch and analysed by cardiology experts. The report comes back the next day and can be forwarded on to you by email.
If your medical shows abnormalities, then we can liaise with your GP or refer you to another private provider of your choice. We unfortunately have no facilities to do blood tests.
We can give general medical advice and advice about medications that may help with tolerating some of the challenge of endurance events.
Costs
A payment link will be sent to you that allows you to pay by bank transfer.
If a repeat medical is needed within the same year, and there have been no significant changes in your health, this can be provided free of charge.
Electrocardiogram service
What is an ECG?
An ECG measures the electrical activity in your heart, your heart rate and rhythm. Stickers are placed on your chest and leads are attached to a small hand held device. The procedure is completely painless and takes just a few minutes. It does require access to the skin on your chest, so your top will need to be removed, but women can keep their bras on.
An ECG can pick up silent or inherited heart conditions that make participating in sports more risky.
These conditions include electrical abnormalities, abnormal heart rhythms, poor blood supply to the heart and heart inflammation or swelling.
The ECG is sent electronically to our partners at Broomwell Health Watch where the ECG is read by a Cardiologist. A full report is available the next day as a PDF, so this will be emailed to you.
If there are any abnormalities, we will arrange a phone consultation to discuss at no extra cost.
